Patriotism runs deep in this family

The Coyles

The other day I was listening to the radio on my way to work. They had just interviewed a lady who was marching in a protest against war with Iraq. They asked her why she was there and her response was "I have never done this before, but I have to now. My son is in the Marines. He only joined so he could get the education benefits. So he gets and education, and now he's suppose to die for it.

I don't know which emotion hit me the hardest. Anger, sadness, disgust, or sympathy.

ANGER If this is truly the only reason he is there, the Marine Corp would be better off without him. He would probably get his fellow Marines killed when it was time to stand and fight.

SADNESS Is there more like this in our military. Is this the new trend. Is this the new hope of our future, and our grand childrens.

DISGUST I think of all the lives that were so selflessly given to ensure that this generation would live in the greatest nation on this planet. It took a lot of sacrifices by those who came before us, to the very beginning of this nation.

SYMPATHY I feel for this mother. I have children, and grand children of my own, and fear the loss of any of them. It would be a terrible hurt to bear.

I wonder if this lady has ever talked to her son about this, and asked his thoughts on the matter. I personally have known many of men in the service. I can remember standing there in the ranks and saluting the flag and feeling the pride well up in my chest. And you look around and everyone else has that same look on their faces. I know how the service takes a boy and turns him into a man, with morals, values, and sense of self respect and dignity. I seriously doubt that her son has the same opinions as she does.

I also have an opinion on the so called Hollywood crowd. If the men at Valley Forge could here them today, would it cause them to try as hard as they did, or would they just say "Oh, well" We tried to stay neutral in the world wars,it wasn't our problem, but that didn't work. Pearl Harbor shook us to our senses and left us seriously at a disadvantage, especially in the pacific area WHAT in God's name makes any of the people in Hollywood think that they know diddly squat about the real world. I don't think that there is a soul in Washington D.C. that wants to have a war. But how many 9-1-1's will it take before they see what damage that they do. The world stood by while Hitler amassed his arms. Ask France how that felt back then. And, in what ways has Germany helped to improve the world. Yet the rich and famous of Hollywood would have us believe that they have the answers. They must have more information and intelligence capabilities than the commander in chief of our country. Word of advice for Hollywood. With the abilities of computer generated filming now days, you may soon be obsolete. I would pay money to see lilo and stitch, before paying to see Charlie, sean, alec, or george.

OH,YEAH

Yes I was in the service. Me and two of my brothers were in during Viet Nam. My youngest brother was to young,he joined the National Guard when he was old enough. My father was in during WW2 and recieved several purple hearts. My daughter was in during the gulf war. NO we are not war mongers. We each and every one wanted a better world for our children to live in. We were all enlisted. We were ready to make what ever sacrifice that we had to for our country, for your country, even for Hollywood YESI believe that we and millions and millions of others are truly PATRIOTS
